A word from the Judge: Lene Carlson, Denmark

To me, it is always special to be invited to Judge outside my own Country. It is even bigger when I can put a new country on the list. I am thankful and honored to be asked to come to Canada and judge the CWDF National Championship 2026.
Also, in this competition, I am sure that we will see the best handlers from Your Country. Handlers who have been working hard to reach this level in our sport. Handlers who often use all their spare time and
more to be here.
Recently we have changed our Rulebook, and now I look forward to judging from the new Rulebook, which gives us the possibility to look at the work from the participants with a new and, in my opinion, a more
modern view.
My big interest in Judging is to watch the harmony, companionship, dogs with an open mind and a high spirit, and cooperation between the Handler and the dog. Also enjoying the dogs that are willing to work, where you see that they also show their self-confidence in their work.
I enjoy watching this kind of work and have been judging with this kind of view for several years now.
I have been a member of The Danish Club for German Shepherd since 1989. I am also a member of the Danish Kennel Club (1989) and the SV (German Shepherd Club,2006). In the moment, I am a member of
the Working Dog Committee at the Danish Kennel Club and their Delegate in the Working Dog Committee of FCI. I am highly active in the working group for the Danish Kennel Club, where we yearly arrange the Championship for FCI IGP3 and FCI IGP FH.
My first dog for training was a Show dog back in 1989 and after few years I switched to working dogs.
About 20 years ago, when I started to train working dogs instead, I have been participating at the Nationals for FCI-IGP3 and FCI IGP FH several times for all breeds and GSD.
I graduated as a Judge in December 2005, got my license in 2006,so this year I have been a judge for 20 years, time flies. I use almost every weekend in the year judging in our local groups and our Qualifications and Nationals for FCI IGP IFH and FCI IGP3. Yearly I have around 25-30 days in Judging, which includes local trial, qualification, and Championships.
My judging has brought me to many countries and, in that way, given me a lot of wonderful experiences and a network all over the world. Countries I have been visiting are Mexico, Russia, Belgium, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, UK, Estonia, Italy, Slovenia, South Africa, Peru, and now also Canada.
Also, during my Judging career, I have educated several new Judges in Denmark. I present seminars on judging, besides talking about the Trial Program and the way of judging in the Clubs in Denmark and other countries that I have visited.
A big thank you to the CWDF for inviting me to judge this Event. Even a bigger thank you to all Helpers, sponsors, etc., to make this event possible. I am again thankful for this Invitation and look forward to meeting new people in our Sport and watching some good work with the dogs in the Field.
I will do my absolute best so that we all can have some great days together.
I wish all the competitors good luck in the Championship.
Thank you, everybody, for your help in making this competition possible.

Best regards
Lene Carlson

My first introduction to working dogs was when I was an officer in the Army. Malinois were often attached to my unit and I was always incredibly impressed with their intelligence, power, and loyalty. My wife and I adopted our first malinois 7 years ago and knew we had to do a dog sport—we found IGP and never looked back. We love IGP because harmony between the dog and handler is valued so highly—IGP has the most beautiful obedience and protection routines. My current competition dog, Zevi (malinois), is my first serious IGP dog. He and I are just beginning our trial career but I’m confident he has the potential to be very successful. I’ve been learning and doing helper work since we started IGP 6 years ago. In the US I’m a helper in 3 organizations. I’m honored by every opportunity I have to work trials and help handlers show the incredible power and skill of their dogs. My wife and I moved to Germany for work two years ago—it’s been a wonderful experience learning from talented trainers across Europe. I’ve been lucky to work a number of championships as a helper in Germany and the USA—including CACIT Germany, AWDF Nationals, the US DVG Nationals, and the AWMA Nationals. We’re members of a fantastic club in Wiesbaden, Germany. I’m excited and grateful to participate in the CWDF Championship this year!

I have been passionate about bite work since the age of 14. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to participate in several championships in France, as well as international competitions, notably the WUSV in 2014 and the FMBB in 2016. It is an honor for me to come and officiate in Canada.
May the best win!
